The little flowers are called florettes, and they come from a typeface
✿ ❀ ❁ are not decorative Unicode inventions. They are florettes from the Dingbats block, U+2700 to U+27BF, which exists so that Hermann Zapf’s 1978 dingbat typeface could be typeset digitally. The whole block is an ornament set for printers, encoded wholesale. That is why the shapes are so even, so light, and so willing to sit inside a line of text: they were drawn as punctuation, not as pictures.

Two of them are not flowers at all. ❃ is HEAVY TEARDROP-SPOKED PINWHEEL ASTERISK and ❋ is HEAVY EIGHT TEARDROP-SPOKED PROPELLER ASTERISK — formally asterisks, read by everyone as blossoms. And ❦ FLORAL HEART with its partner ❧ ROTATED FLORAL HEART BULLET are the fleuron and the hedera, printers’ marks used to break paragraphs long before anyone had a bio to decorate.
The practical consequence is the useful part. Every character in that table lives low in the Basic Multilingual Plane, has been in fonts for decades, inherits your text colour and scales with your font size. If a flower has to survive a strict field or match the colour of the text beside it, it comes from that table — not from the emoji keyboard.
When the emoji flower is the right choice
🌸 🌺 🌻 🌷 are pictures, and pictures win when you want to be seen. They carry colour you did not have to ask for, they render at a consistent size across the feed, and on a phone screen they read from further away than a florette ever will. Use them in captions, posts and comments, where nothing is being filtered.
They lose in exactly one place: any field that validates its input. Usernames, display names, game tags and some link-in-bio services strip characters above the Basic Multilingual Plane, and every flower emoji lives up there. The florettes do not, which is the entire reason this page keeps them separate.

Where flower symbols survive and where they break
Instagram and TikTok bios. Everything here works, florettes and emoji alike. This is what the long sets were built for.
Usernames and display names. Florettes usually pass. Flower emoji get stripped, often silently — open the saved profile and look, rather than trusting the preview.
Games with name filters. Assume every emoji is rejected. ✿ ❀ ❁ and ⚘ are the shapes that survive.
Email subject lines. Both kinds render, but some filters weight emoji-heavy subjects. A single florette reads as typography rather than as marketing.
Read aloud. A screen reader says "cherry blossom" for 🌸 and, in most engines, nothing at all for ✿ — a florette is punctuation to them. That silence is a feature when you are wrapping a name, and a problem when the flower carried meaning you needed.

Why is my flower pink when I wanted it to match my text?
You used 🌸, an emoji, and the colour is painted by the phone. Use ✿, ❀ or ❁ instead — they take the colour of the text around them.
What is the difference between ✿ and ❀?
✿ is BLACK FLORETTE, filled. ❀ is WHITE FLORETTE, hollow. In Unicode, black means solid and white means outlined, with no reference to the colour anything renders in. They are the same flower drawn two ways, and they pair well because of it.
Why does my flower show as an empty box?
That device’s font has no glyph for the character. It is rare with the Dingbats florettes and common with the newer emoji — 🪷 LOTUS was only added in 2021 and is missing from plenty of older phones.
Can I use these in a Discord nickname?
Yes, both kinds. Watch the sets that stack combining marks above and below, because a compact channel list clips them; the plain florettes never have this problem.
Do flower symbols make a bio harder to find?
Only when you put them inside words. A name written with florettes between the letters is no longer a word anyone searches for. Wrap the words, do not interrupt them — the same rule that governs emoji combos generally.
